Sudden weight gain while in a caloric deficit... the scale just keeps going up, and I feel like giving up entirely.
Hello, To give you some context, here’s a quick summary: I’m a 32-year-old male. Over the last two and a half years, I’ve gone from 120 kg to 88 kg, while also building muscle through three strength training sessions and one HIIT session per week.
I’ve been tracking my calories for over a year, so I know my data is reliable. My maintenance level is around 2,750 kcal, with a macro breakdown of 1.8g of protein and 0.8g of fat per kg of body weight, a low-glycemic-index diet, etc.
For the past three weeks, my weight has been steadily climbing, even though I’ve been lowering my caloric intake—I’m up about 1.5 kg.
I started by dropping to 2,600 kcal, then 2,500, and now I’m at 2,400 kcal—yet every morning, the scale shows a higher number. Meanwhile, my performance in the gym has remained stable or even improved slightly.
Honestly, I’m discouraged; I feel like throwing in the towel and ending up regaining all the weight I’ve lost. My goal is to reach 86 kg, but right now, the whole process just feels exhausting.
