[VENT] I am seriously concerned for our children

My observation:

Every morning, I take the tram to work. There's lots of children of varying ages on the tram as well. From what I observed, about a third of the elementary school children (ages 6-10) and about half of the middle school children (ages 10-14) are overweight or obese. Elementary school children get on at my tram station and get off only one stop later (about 300 meters/980 feet/330 yards) instead of walking the distance to get to their school which is right next to the tram station. There's a safe pedestrian walk on both sides of the street and the children have to cross the street twice to get to the tram stop, so it's not safer to take the tram instead of walking. Quite a few of the older children eat their breakfast on the tram - mostly donuts and pastries from the local bakery shops.

Why I'm writing this post:

I am seriously concerned about these children's futures. This is something that's been on my mind for a long time. The more I read on this subreddit about redditors being overweight since childhood the more concerned I get. Studies have shown that childhood obesity often turns into adolescence and adulthood obesity where it becomes increasingly difficult to reverse health damages (read more in this meta study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26696565/). We are aware about the dangers of obesity, yet I feel like my government and society in general fail to set preventative measures to protect the children from the negative effects of unhealthy foods and little to no physical exercise. Childhood obesity is on an upwards trend and I am worried already for all those children who will struggle with their weight and health in the future.
