How necessary is protein?

I used to have protein deficiency. I wasn't getting nearly enough protein even for maintenance in most of my meals and I didn't realize it, so I was hungry all the time, I was exhausted, I was feeling like shit and I had no idea why. I've since figured it out and at least mostly cleared up my "debt", and as I've been making sure to get more protein in my meals, I realized how much more satiating and filling they were. And obviously eating enough protein is important, but when I was at a major deficiency, it was NECESSARY for feeling decent since I was already behind. But as you all probably know, getting enough protein in a diet when your bodyweight is still high can be a lot of work, and while I'll obviously keep trying to have enough protein in my meals, sometimes you're out of some ingredients or in a tight spot and you can't have the protein requirement for your bodyweight in a meal, so my question is, do I really need to reach the optimal mark every time for the meal to be truly satiating now that my protein deficency is more or less solved? Or does it not matter as much?
