Weight gain, meds, and fluid retention

I (35F) have POTS and am on meds to help me retain salt and water. I'm also on other meds that have weight gain as a side effect. I consume an increased amount of sodium and water daily to help manage the POTS.

According to this article, being on my period and eating one high salt meal can cause a few extra pounds of weight fluctuations. That's not even including the additional retention from my medications.

Do I really have to just wait it out a few months then to see if I'm actually losing any fat? I assume the answer is yes, but that's frustrating. Is there a better way to go about seeing scale progress?
