First time doing OMAD — read about gallstones & uric acid… should I be worried?
Hey everyone,
I’ve just started a weight loss program where I’ve been advised to follow a one meal a day (OMAD) approach, at least for the first phase. Doing this Chiang Mai.
A bit about me:
40M, \~125 kg
First few days of OMAD have actually felt pretty good and manageable
I’m trying to lose a decent chunk of weight over the next month
But I went down a bit of a Reddit rabbit hole and now I’m slightly concerned about a couple of things:
- Gallbladder / gallstones
I’ve read that fasting or rapid weight loss can increase the risk of gallstones. Is doing OMAD for a month enough to cause issues, or is that more of a long-term / extreme dieting thing?
- Uric acid / gout
I’m already on Febustat 40 for uric acid.
I’ve seen people say fasting or keto-style eating can temporarily raise uric acid levels. Has anyone experienced flare-ups doing OMAD?
What I’m currently doing:
One large meal (usually includes meat, veg, some carbs, some fat)
Coffee + water during the day
Trying to stay hydrated
What I’m trying to figure out:
Is OMAD safe to do for \~30 days in my situation?
Any tips to reduce risk of gallstones or uric acid spikes?
Should I be adding small things (like fruit, fats, electrolytes) during the day?
Would really appreciate input, especially from anyone who’s done OMAD while overweight or with prior uric acid issues.
Thanks!
