18M, 6’5”, 235lbs, feel mentally stuck on diet despite years of trying. Need honest advice.

Hey everyone, first time posting here. I’m 19(title is a mistake lol it was bday recently) and I used to play offensive tackle in high school. I’ve been lifting seriously for over 5 years now and honestly the gym has never really been my issue. I genuinely enjoy training, I go consistently, and working out is probably my biggest hobby.

The problem is always my diet.

I keep falling into the same cycle where I get motivated, eat well for a few days, then slowly stop caring and end up binge eating again. It’s not even always emotional or dramatic either. Most of the time I just lose focus, go back to old habits, and before I know it I’ve completely fallen off again.

What makes it frustrating is that I already know what I should be doing. I understand calories, protein, meal prep, all the basics. I’ve tried tracking food, prepping meals ahead of time, eating cleaner, deleting food apps, pretty much everything. Nothing seems to last longer than a few days before I mentally check out and start eating like crap again.

I honestly think there’s something deeper going on mentally because it feels like my enjoyment of food is stronger than my desire to change sometimes, even though I really do want to lose weight and feel better about myself.

I’m also just really unhappy with my physique overall. I have pretty bad gynecomastia i developed when I was really young because of puberty and I carry way more body fat than I want to. Even after years of lifting, I still don’t feel confident in how I look at all. I’ve even considered peptides and GLPs before because I wanted faster results, but I don’t want to mess with that stuff tbh because of the potential health risks and unknowns.

Has anyone else here dealt with this exact kind of situation where the issue wasn’t knowledge or gym consistency, but the mental side of eating and staying disciplined with food? What actually helped you make it stick long term?

I’d genuinely appreciate any advice.
