Can high cortisol make it basically impossible to lose weight even in a deficit?

I’m (17 F) trying to understand something about weight loss and stress. I’ve been eating in a calorie deficit consistently and staying active, but my cortisol feels like it’s through the roof. I also don’t have a scale so I wouldn’t know if I lost weight or not. My home environment is really stressful, my dad constantly tries to start fights with me, and when I don’t react, things can escalate and become physical. I’m basically in fight or flight every day.

Could chronic stress/cortisol make it really hard to lose weight even when you are in a deficit? Or would the deficit still override the stress hormones? I’m not looking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone has been through something similar or knows the science.

Also, please no judgment I’m just trying to get healthier while dealing with a lot.
