Lifting weights while losing weight?

Background: I (5’10” male) started walking and eventually running July 1st weighing 202#. I also intermittent fast (no food from 8pm-noon, and keep calories 1200 or less. I’m down to 173 and feel great but I still have some belly and side fat I’m working on. I recently started hitting the gym to start working on physique a little bit. Not interested in body building, just definition.

Is it counter intuitive to keep watching the scale every morning now? Should I instead measure with a tape measure to track goals or progression, or will I still see some weight loss along with muscle gain? Will lifting weights pull from the fat reserves in my stomach and sides and help tone up?
