Keeping the Weight off

I am trying to lose weight and keep it off for good. As I have lost weight several times but always gain it back when I stop tracking or go back to old habits.

One thing I realised, you need to know your goal weight and how much you really can eat for that with the lifestyle you can sustain. For example, do you want to keep doing an hour of cardio every day? How much do you want to walk every day? Etc.

So for me, at my goal weight and lifestyle, I am aiming to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I would need to eat around 1650 calories. I am pretty short so this is less than most people. But it’s manageable for me. I know if I want to eat more, I can do more cardio etc. Which I do some days already. Sure, you could occasionally go over or under. But if you want to avoid unpredictable weight fluctuations, it’s better to stay consistent. Tracking gets easier and less tedioud the more you do it. Especially with apps where you can save your meals etc.

But basically, if you’re losing weight, be realistic about what your maintenance at your goal weight will look like and don’t go over this! Unless you want to gain weight again and be stuck in the cycle.

On another note, I recommend tracking and weighing everything as much as possible. I try to take my scale with me to work and I will probably buy a scale to keep at work too. You might seem odd weighing everything and tracking while everyone just eats normally, but ultimately, this is the type of discipline that gets predictable results.
