F 51, 169cm, SW 73.5kg, CW 66.5kg. that's a stone in old money. GW 65kg.
One of the things you hear a lot as a perimenopausal woman is that you're just going to get fat now. Your hormones will betray you, you'll pile the weight on your back and belly, welcome to being basically circular for the rest of your life.
Bullshit. Weightlifting still works, calorie restriction still works. Maybe our bodies no longer sproing back into muscly fitness like a 21yo man, maybe our hormones are haywire, but it is still doable and don't let people persuade you to give up if you don't want to.
So, I just wanted to wave at my peri/menopausal siblings and say, you can do it. I've lost 7kg since 22 May via IF (16:8, no breakfast), weights or body weight exercise 4x a week, and calories around 1200-1400 a day with high protein and fibre. More importantly, my BMI, waist hip ratio and waist height ratio are all nicely within 'healthy' range now, and I'm feeling strong, strong-boned, and generally in good shape.
I set out on this because I want a healthy old age, and the best time to set myself up for that is now. So bobbins to 'well you just get fat in perimenopause, accept it'. No thank you.
Immense respect to people in here who have a lot more to lose and are plugging away: your dedication is inspiring and this sub has been a great support.
