Some of us are not able to avoid the hotel breakfast buffet. One might be on a business trip where this is the most convenient option and already paid for by the office. One might be on a holiday trip with others.
Are there any strategies to maintain CICO and still use the buffet? Logically, you don't have to get all the food in sight and you need to see the buffet as being there for your convenience and not for you to "maximize."
I was thinking to start with these strategies, assuming a higher end or 5-star hotel buffet:
-
skip the greasy sausages, eggs, and hash browns, and everything else you would not normally eat at home
-
skip all the sugary pastries and desserts
-
skip everything fried
-
get a core protein meal, like a simple omelette (even an egg white omelette). if they have a non-greasy protein option like chicken breast or fish fillets, consider that
-
alternatively, get a bowl of non-sugary oats, yoghurt or porridge. even a couple of slices of toasted wheat bread to keep things simple.
-
add vegetables from the salad bar, or grilled, steamed or stir fried options if there are any. also check if there is clear soup.
-
add a little low calorie fruit.
