For almost a year of my life I have been panicked about and trying to remedy high blood pressure. I have a cuff at home and check it fairly regularly.
Turns out, my upper arms are conical - fat but unevenly so - it’s genetic. On a whim I decided to take my BP on my forearm. 120/72. Totally normal. Must be a fluke right?
Wrong. Apparently forearm blood pressure generally reads higher than upper arm. If you have fat/conical upper arms, start taking your BP at the forearm with the cord touching your elbow (that’s where the artery is).
Not a tip to “trick” the system - just one to ensure your readings are accurate.
