Weight loss journey... And a broken ankle

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering what I can do now. I've been losing weight since January, managed to go down 2 sizes (XXL to L), but I still have a lot to lose to be happy and comfortable with my own body. Everything was swell, until I fell down during a hike last week and wrecked my ankle. Two bones shattered.

The recovery will take time, I was told. I'm going to have a major surgery this week and then bedrest for at least 2 - 3 weeks, followed by at least 3 weeks of sitting on the sofa. Then, I might start carefully walking with crutches and start physiotherapy. Long story short - I'll be lucky if I am able to go back to working out at the end of this year.

One thing I am afraid of is putting the weight back on - it would even be awful for the fractured ankle as it'd have to bear more weight. Easy, people say, I shouldn't eat. BUT, and it's a huge but, this situation has made me severely depressed and I'm afraid I won't have the strength or willpower to continue once I'm bedridden, mentally low and in pain. How do I stay on track?

Can I still lose weight like this?

I'm not very happy with my body right now and really wanted to achieve my goals by Dec. That's not going to happen, I know, but is there a way to at least keep moving forward, even a little, instead of putting everything on hold?
