Super easy to stay within calorie limits during the day, and REALLY hard after 7-ish. Why?

Very curious about the brain's reasonings here. The cravings are SO strong at night. Especially for sugar. The only way I've resisted is if I eat a really hearty dinner(over cal limit) + something sweet. If you got over this, then how? I'd really like to overcome this as it feels like the only thing stopping me from gradually losing the weight.

I'm generally not busy during the evenings, which makes me think about food. Being busy is not a solution though, so I'm curious about mindset/tricking the body into not caring about food at night...or something. Thanks yall
