Strange question

So, a year ago I was 305. I made my way down to 240 back in May but have since rebounded to 250. I've had to go back to being really aware of when and what I eat. A strange thought crossed my head today though and I haven't been able to shake it....

If you eat high-calorie food that is physically low in weight, is it still possible for you to gain weight? I mean, the extra mass has to come from somewhere, right? Otherwise we would all be eating spoonfuls of sugared fat. Not that I'm about to do that, but has anyone ever looked into how low mass/high calorie foods add weight?
