Hey r/loseit, I’m hoping to get some advice on weight loss strategies. I’m a 39-year-old male with hypothyroidism (controlled, and my numbers have been in range as of 3 months ago). Over the past 6 months, I’ve gained about 15 pounds even though I haven’t changed my eating habits. I used to be able to lose weight pretty easily, but now it feels like no matter what I try, the weight isn’t coming off.
I work as a chef, so my job is very active, but my energy levels aren’t great. I’ve tried adding more cardio to my routine, but it hasn’t made much of a difference. I’ve also tried intermittent fasting and following CICO without success, even though I’m eating healthy and staying under my TDEE.
I’ve done weight lifting in the past, and I’ve noticed that I tend to put on weight quickly when I start lifting again (maybe due to muscle memory). I’ve read posts that say weight lifting can sometimes be more effective than cardio for fat loss, and I’m wondering if that’s something I should focus on instead of cardio.
If anyone has experience with weight loss while dealing with hypothyroidism or advice on whether cardio or weight lifting is better for fat loss, I’d really appreciate it! Also, if you have a good routine that’s worked for you, I’d love to hear it.
Thanks in advance for your help!
