I gained a lot of weight during the pandemic, and for years people kept calling me "fat". Last year I hit "overweight" on the BMI scale so I embarked on a journey of completely changing my diet. My weight loss has been deliberately slow but steady. I now maintain a loss of 0.5kg per month until I reach my target weight.
My target BMI is 19, which would place me right at the base of "normal" on the BMI scale. I'm currently at 19.9, my pants are falling off of me. I thought I'd finally get compliments but just this week, already 2 people have told me that I need to stop dieting because I'm "too skinny". Ironically, they are also trying to lose weight.
Why do people do this, where they criticize you for being overweight and then they criticize you for being underweight (I'm not underweight, I still have folds)? Why can't people just be happy for the efforts and progress of others? We all have our own ideals, surely if our target weight is within the normal range it doesn't require any kind of intervention?
Has anyone here been experiencing the same negative attention to your positive weight loss journey? How do you deal with it?
