So a little back story, about 2.5 years ago I started working out have gone from 344--->193 and have gained quite a bit of muscle and have just let me beard grow and kind of look like a big scary guy. This last week something happened that broke me mentally which I didn't expect.
I was finishing up my workout jamming out to music and had this kid come up to me in the gym. He was between 10-12? Maybe i dunno i cant really tell age well. He was kind of chubby you could tell, and he asks me "Do you know a machine here I can get more skinny on?" I was pretty taken back and it brought up emotions i guess i didn't realize i must've buried. I kept it together and explained to him that diet is important and i showed him how to do the battle ropes and he showed his younger brother who was prolly 7-8. I broke down crying on the way to work after the gym, and I think I realize its because I remember being that age and all I wanted to do was not be as heavy as I was.
So putting my personal feelings aside(I'm going to go find a therapist), every time I see them at the gym this last week they want me to show them how to use other machines. I don't want to discourage them but at the same time I'm just a stranger at the gym. So I need advice, do I ask where their parents are and talk to them? Do I talk to the front desk and see if they have like a kids program? I guess i just need advice on how to navigate this without feeling like i will let them down.
