I'm currently on my umpteenth attempt to lose weight. My biggest weakness is savoury, fried snacks and I have a habit of falling off the bandwagon after a binge or a planned big meal.
This time, I tried a different approach. I'm religiously tracking my calories, trying to find snacks that fit into my calorie budget if I feel too hungry between meals, and I prepared for an upcoming big meal by going a bit below my calorie goal the rest of the week. Yesterday, the weather was nice for the first time in forever, so my partner wanted to test his new barbecue. We bought some vegan sausages and burgers, tofu, and a lot of veggies. I spent almost 2 hours prepping and noticed the sausages, burgers and tofu alone were almost 1500 calories. As I had about 2200 calories for the entire day, I was a bit scared as I really didn't want to go over, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to keep myself from eating all of it.
Eventually, after some bread, potato salad, 2 sausages, some grilled veggies and some tofu satay, I was STUFFED. Only 2 weeks of really taking care of my diet, and I can already eat less than before. I didn't feel as guilty as I anticipated about throwing out some stuff we couldn't keep for leftovers, and about half of the meat replacement products went back into the fridge for our next barbecue!
As I said, I have a habit of falling off the bandwagon. I'm terrible at forming habits. This morning, without even thinking about it, I pulled out my kitchen scale to weigh out my breakfast again. I logged my calories. I managed.
It may seem like a small step, but it's a huge victory for me.
