Mindset help?

TW, talk of disordered eating

I’ve recently decided to finally really try to lose the “last 10 pounds,” (F, 5’6.5”, CW: 153, GW: 140-145ish) and I’m running into the same issue that leads me to give up every time. Whenever I start calorie counting I almost immediately go into what I’d call a “scarcity” mindset, which makes me obsess over food and eventually lose control. Not quite to the level of a full on binge, but enough that I’m just undoing any progress I’ve made. This happens even when my calories are at a reasonable deficit (for example I’ve been trying to stick to the 1600-1700 range this time around).

Does anyone have any tricks, mindset or otherwise, to get myself out of this loop? I imagine it’s a holdover from the many years I struggled with pretty extreme disordered eating. I’ve been “recovered” from that for about 5 years now, but apparently not entirely because I can’t seem to break this pattern (and yes, therapy seems like the obvious answer here but sadly I cannot afford it lol)
