Day One - A Dress

Hello all,

I've lurked here for a bit, and am inspired by reading your stories and seeing your progress. Thank you! I am going to do the same. Here are my stats:

SW: 310

GW: 199

37f

310 lbs / 140.6 kg / 22st 2lb

6'1" / 185 cm

I've attached a recent "starting point" photo for reference. This is the photo I plan to use as a comparison as I go along in this journey. I'll probably take some photos in a bra and shorts to track progress as well; part of what I'm aiming for is to wear a specific dress and I like the idea of comparing back to this photo.

The following are my thoughts as I start out.

The Choice:

I've decided to lose weight. I'm posting here for accountability and will update as I go along on this journey.

The Scenario:

The past year or so has been quite difficult for me. I moved to another country, had a baby, both of my parents passed away, and I've been hospitalized twice (thrice if you count the baby). All of that personal stuff has diminished my professional portfolio if only due to the sheer amount of time I've missed, though I'm grateful to have reliable work and (mostly) understanding colleagues. I want something to go well and focusing on my health is a way to advance that desire.

The Why:

Inspiration struck when going through my mother's things and finding clothing she used to wear when she was a younger woman. None of it would fit me as my mother was very trim, so most of it was gifted to other family members or donated. I decided to keep one dress that is bright and cheery, reminiscent of my mum's personality. My brother was going through things with me and I defensively said to him that I could save it for my child. He nodded and said that I could also use it as something to work towards; he said this lovingly as I've talked about my health goals.

There are many reasons why I am focusing on weight loss, and I plan to share as I update. For today, it's working towards wearing my mother's old dress. I also want to lose weight to be healthier to live a long and comfortable life with my spouse and child.

Where I'm at Today:

Apps: I've started tracking my calories in LoseIt, joined Habitica to shape better habits, and Google Fit to track steps.

Goals for the Week:

Stay under 2500 calories per day, aiming for 2165. Find a scale to check weight, as I will be away from home for some time.

Inspirational quote:

"Time will pass anyway. You might as well just take it one day at a time and each day you're a step closer to your goal." - Fay Marshall
