Today is 80lbs down from 380. It's taken 3 years but I'm still going. How I did it as a hopeless addict
So I'm 28 now I'm one of those people that just has a really hard time with loosing weight I know what needs to be done but it's really hard to stay motivated, but regardless I've just reached a major milestone. When I started I would eat out 2-3 times a day and was on my way to 400lbs.
The route that I took with help from my doctor and a nutritionist they decided the best approach was harm reduction, the one you give to addicts not ready for change. They thought that going cold turkey was going to lead to failure and were probably right.
The first step they asked me to do was to cut down my fast food, they asked me to limit it to twice a day max and the meal that I cook for myself I try to cook using mostly items I find on the outside isles of a grocery store (meat veggies dairy) and to limit pre prepared stuff. They asked if I could manage that, there was no calorie restrictions yet, and they asked me to come back in two weeks.
Two weeks later I reported that i ate out 2 times most days but there was 2 days that I wasn't able to cook, and the rest of the time I cooked or had leftovers. They said that's good and they gave me another goal of cutting it down to 1.5 take out meals a week and for me too cook more. And to come back in 2 weeks.
So I tried that for two weeks and didn't quite hit the goal but after a month of this I found that I was way more confident in the kitchen and was able to meal plan better and cook faster.
About 2 months in we started talking about what a healthy meal looks like, basically half a plate of veggies, quarter of carbs and a quarter of healthy proteins. And the goal was started to introduce healthier meals into the mix
So about 4 months in I was down 20lbs and stalled and kind of gave up. But something cool happened. Even though my willpower was depleted to diet I found I was eating out less in general because I now knew how too cook. Also over the next few months my weight was stable which was an achievement in itself.
I gave it another crack a few months later, I knew how to portion and what needed to be done and I managed to loose 20 lbs and keep it off.
I've been kinda doing that for the last 3 years and now have dropped a total of 80lbs. It's getting easier to keep the weight off and now it's getting easier to stay on a diet.
So I'm not so hopeless anymore and see the light at the end of the tunnel, I'm still over 100lbs left but overall in much better health
