I’m usually a nice dress or skirt kind of girl, but I’m going to a professional school that sometimes requires females to wear dress pants to certain classes / events. I was already dreading shopping for dress pants- frankly they don’t look great on most women no matter their size. But for a curvy gal like me (before losing weight recently), it seemed impossible to find any that can even button / zip correctly.
I went to the department store “misses” section where they carry not just plus sizes but normal sizes on the higher end (size 12-16 or 18). I knew I had lost weight so I went for the 16s first. I’d previously been around an 18 in non dress pants but, given how small a lot of dress pants run and how the fabric has no give, I had a feeling I might still need an 18 and the 16s would be too tight. Much to my surprise- the 16s were way too big. What? I don’t think in my entire life I’ve ever tried pants on and had them be TOO BIG for me. I still liked the style of the dress pants and they were a good price, so I went to look for 14s. Believe it or not- all the sizes they had were TOO BIG.
It seems so dumb typing this out but it was such a crazy good feeling. It used to be the total norm that every time I’d go clothes shopping the rack would have all of the smaller sizes, but never the bigger size I’d need- there wouldn’t be clothes big enough for me in stock. But now for the first time in my life the store literally didn’t have pants SMALL ENOUGH for me. Words I thought I’d never say. I ended up picking a different style of pants that had a size 14 in stock, and somehow ended my day not feeling terrible about dress pants shopping.
