Trusting the calorie counting app

I did know that calorie counting apps go by estimates, but I lost 20kgs with tracking, eating 1200calories a day (I am a short woman) and weightlifting, so I thought that switching to maintenance, the app would spit out a number that would work for me.

It didn't.

It calculated a maintenance of 2000calories a day. Couldn't believe it, but since I had an eating disorder when I was younger and did not want to fall back, I increased my calories (maybe too fast?). Gained 4kg back.

Then I switched gyms to a more expensive one, but with so many possibilities, like an inbody-scan for example (and stress-tests, cardio-tests, flexibility-tests, trainer sessions, group workouts, prevention workouts,...).

I did the inbody scan and even based on all the sports I do (poledance, taekwondo, weightlifting, stretching) my BMR is 1450 and my calorie goal about 1600-1700 a day to maintain, most likely due to not having a lot of activity outside of my training sessions.

So yeah, like many people on here I've learned that you should not trust calorie counting apps blindly and increase your calories slowly, while maybe weighing yourself a bit more regularly.

This did thankfully not demotivate me, I took a deficit break for a while and now I'm all the more motivated to lose the last 10-14kg. I think a few years ago that gain would've sent me spiraling.
