I count my calories and the reason for overeating when I’ve worked out is not so much because I think I deserve it and can eat more, but often because I’m just too hungry. It’s usually a calculated move I.e. “I’m still ravenous but I’ve exceeded my intended calories for the day, so maybe I’ll just have this small high protein snack to hopefully stave off this hunger.” I end up usually eating 150-400 kcal more than usual. I try to keep this high protein, low carb, with a bit of healthy fats where possible, but it’s frustrating since I’m usually still much hungrier than on a non-workout day and I go to bed hungry.
I’ve tried doing less intense workouts like walking on incline instead of running, and swimming in a more relaxed pace rather than trying to reach a certain timing, but I’m usually too hungry.
I’m thinking of cutting back (or even cutting out) cardio because of this. I would rather be able to reach my goals on my calorie deficit (only 200-300kcal a day) than ruin it all because I’ve worked out.
Has anyone experienced this and any tips on how to continue working out without ruining my diet? I love all other aspects of working out and if I had my way id like it vigorous, high intensity for that extra adrenaline rush, but obviously that has been the worst for my hunger.
