I've set targets of as few as 1000 calories up to 1800 before. All were unsustainable to me and I'd eventually give up and go back to my usual habits.
I've finally found what works for me to have balanced meals a few times a day, snacks and even the occasional takeaway and not feel hungry all the time or eating too much.
My average works out to 2050 calories each day across the past couple of months. It has been slooooooow progress having lost 10lbs. But I've had a few takeaways, have never gone to bed hungry but I'm still losing weight. My TDEE is about 2900. I'm 6ft 1 and gone from 205lbs to 195lbs.
I can only presume that I must've been consuming 4k+ calories on a regular basis after too much unhealthy foods and snacks.
I've realised that I don't actually have to starve myself to lose weight. I just need to stop eating when I feel full, eat more balanced meals, and limit my snacks.
Slow but sustainable progress is working far better than the quick fixes I was trying before.
