how much protein should a 22f who doesn’t do traditional strength training consume for muscle gains?
Hi! I know this question is asked a lot, but I couldn't find an answer that related to my situation. As the title suggests, I'm a 22 year old female who doesn't do traditional strength training but is looking to gain muscle.
I've struggled with my body image since I was a teenager and gained 30kg a few years ago in a short amount of time. Last year, I lost 12kg by under-eating (virtually no protein consumption at all) and over-exercising (low impact cardio).
Since then, my mentality towards my health and my body has done a complete 180°. My goals have changed for the better and I have finally begun to take care of myself and my body. I fell in love with running and only recently discovered a passion for calisthenics.
I feel like everything is going well, except for my protein intake - I have no idea what it should look like for someone like me. I work out 5 days a week, a little over an hour per day. I run on 2 of those days and then I do beginner calisthenics for 5 (2 of them are on the running days). Although I am a beginner, I work very hard and always train to failure.
I've been getting recommended 1.8g of protein per kg of my bodyweight. However, with my current weight that would require me to be consuming 152g which I feel is a bit excessive especially as I'm not doing traditional strength training at the gym.
My body fat percentage is 34% so I still have a bit to lose, but for this last stretch of weight loss I really want to focus on building as much muscle as possible. If anyone could help me figure this out I would be very grateful!
Thank you!
