Middle insomnia when in a calorie deficit - help!

So I’m trying to lose the 10lbs that crept on over Christmas!

For context I’m 33F, 140lbs, 5’5.

I’ve been doing really well. I’ve lost 5lbs so far. I calculated by TDEE/BMR and am using MFP. I probably eat 1200-1400 calories a day.

But the most frustrating thing is happening now I’m in a deficit. I’m waking up at between 2:30-3:30am every night, and I can’t go back to sleep until about 4:30-5:00am! It seems to coincide with my weight loss. I have no issue at all going to sleep, I’m out like a light around 10pm, head hits pillow. It’s frustrating as I have to get up about 6:30am to take the kids to school.

Other points:

  1. I quit caffeine completely just before I started my diet (and until now was having the most wonderful long sleeps through the night!)

  2. I take magnesium (although not sure it’s the most effective variety), B complex, vitamin D.

  3. I get a reasonable amount of exercise, usually 10k steps or a little under.

  4. I have my last meal at around 6pm.

Has anyone else experienced this and what worked for you? I read my blood sugar may be dropping in the night and I’m being awoken due to a cortisol response so wonder if it’s that. But I really don’t want to eat more and ruin my diet!
