Drinking more water, waking up with a headache?

Not strictly weight loss related but I’m sure any people start drinking more water when they diet so…

I’ve recently started pushing myself to drink more liquids. I’m trying to drink 2l a day (and struggling, I’ve never been much of a drinker.)

I’ve noticed on days that I do manage to drink my full 2l that I always wake up with a dehydration headache. It’s really unpleasant. It goes away in the morning after I’ve had my first decent drink, but I wake up so dry throated and with a headache.

What’s the cause of this? Why am I getting more dehydrated by drinking more?
