I’ve read that you can exercise too much and it can have negative affects such as slowing metabolism and increasing cortisol levels which makes it harder to lose weight.
I recently started going to the gym 5 days a week (1hr weightlifting sessions, 7 exercises, 3-4 sets per exercise, 3 leg days, 2 upper days alternating from Monday-Friday). I also run 20-45mins 3-5 times a week. Although I have lost a lot of weight, my cardio health isn’t great so I think, based on my heart rate, all my runs would be classed as high intensity. I have been doing this routine for a month, before that I was just running. I walk 30-50mins on top of this everyday. Sometimes I also do an extra longer walk a week too. Calories are tracked and most days I have been in a calorie deficit, only a few days have I ate to maintenance and 1-2 slightly above (shouldn’t be enough to ruin progress).
I have only lost a single lb in a whole month. BMI wise, Im only just not classed as obese after losing 55lb. I have lost weight relatively consistently until going to the gym too. I know I could technically be building muscle which is why I’m not seeing any change in weight but I’m concerned that I’m possibly doing too much.
Does anyone know whether this amount of exercise would be too much? I’m 26F if this makes any difference. I can’t find a definite answer online so I’m hoping people can advise off personal experience.
