Sometimes I feel like I'm doing this all wrong, even after losing almost 85 pounds. Advice welcome, but mostly venting.
I started on this journey to... Honestly I don't remember why I started, if I'm totally honest. It's been about 3 years since I started putting a concerted effort into calorie counting. Really calorie counting is all I've really done. The only things I really don't eat anymore are things like chips(US), snack cakes, and candy. I only really gave up the bacon king from burger king because I can't fit it into my caloric budget anymore. (I could back at 320-325, but at 235-240, I just can't. Or, I probably could, but I don't really want to, because it would be more than half of my calorie budget on one meal, and how lame is that?)
Outside of that, a typical day for me can consist of breakfast of 2 peanut butter and banana sandwiches on whole grain bread, alongside a protein shake made with nonfat milk. Lunch differs at home and at work. At work it's typically something I can eat quickly. Maybe a sandwich from the deli section of a small local shop, something like that. Dinner is whatever the guys make.
(I'm a firefighter/paramedic, so I spend 12 hours in a station with a bunch of other guys and gals. I try to keep it "healthy" when it's my turn to cook. But it's not always my turn to cook.)
When not working, it's usually something like what I've usually eaten, but modified. For example, I really enjoy barbecue smoked sausages, so I've began using chicken and turkey sausages, and frozen fries. Everything gets tracked and I try to stay below roughly 2500 calories per day. Or burgers are typically turkey patties. Or a whole grain English muffin with eggs and cheese. Sometimes there's fish, and I like to mix in strawberries with cottage cheese, sometimes.
Really, I'm just trying to give you a general overview of my current eating habits. This is a change from nightly doordashes of McDonald's or various other fast foods. (Shit gets expensive in a hurry) That's not saying I never eat out anymore, it's just if I want to, I actually have to leave the house for it, which I sometimes do.
I know it's all junk food and I should do better, but still. I'll take the progress I've made.
As for exercise, I've been lifting since the first time I lost weight. (295-250) And throughout my regain (240-325), so I've got the exercise down. My typical workouts take 90-120 minutes.
I'm not sure I trust the body fat percentage calculators. They say 20-25%, but I honestly think it's more like 30-40%
Either way, idunno. I've been maintaining for a bit. So I feel like I'm not trying hard enough in the gym or with my diet.
This is primarily a vent, but advice is welcome.
For reference.
M/6'1/ 325-235/240. Hoping to reach 220.
Bench 245, squat 365, dead 435.
Editing to add: I work out 5 days a week, I can also do pullups and dips now. So that's... Something. Still trying to decide how I feel about that.
