I’ve gained 4.5 pounds in 2 weeks…

Hi guys,

Just looking for some guidance here really.

I’ve been running a lot since December, I was looking about 1/2 pounds a month consistently and felt great! I wasn’t really tracking my food input but was eating 3/4 meals a day (well 3 meals and a snack). The only reason I haven’t been keen on tracking is because I was bulimic as a teenager and am acutely aware of the fact that the minute I start tracking, my old “let’s skip the next meal to save calories” comes back and part of my fitness journey is to learn that I am allowed to eat 3 times a day like a normal person.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I started going to the gym and lowering my number of runs as I’ve been experiencing some knee pain and needed to up my strength in my legs so that I could cope with longer runs better. I’ve been going to the gym for an hour (and I mean an hour, apart from the minute break in between exercises, I’m not one of these people who go to hand around on their phone and not do very much). I’m also still running twice a week (only about 7/10km per run).

I’m eating in the same way I’ve been eating for the past 7/8 months: breakfast is usually a bit of Greek yogurt with berries and some granola, lunch is a salad mixed of quinoa, chickpeas, sweetcorn, celery, carrots, tomatoes, some hummus and an added protein, and dinner is usually some kind of protein with a bit of carbs and veg. I’ll have a small bar of 85% chocolate and some fruit for my snack most days.

To my horror, I got on the scales this morning and I’ve gained 4.5 pounds… I can feel it though, I feel super bloated and meh in my body but it’s bloody hard not to feel disheartened. The only thing that could be improved is my steps number as I have an office job and tend to be sedentary so on non-running days I’ll be lucky to log 5 to 7000 steps.

I’m just looking for some guidance really, have I really gained this much weight?! What could I do to improve? I know tracking is important but for the reasons stated above, I’d really like to avoid doing this in an excessive manner. I don’t want to lose weight because my eating disorder is ruling my life again. I’d just love to be active and have a healthy diet without needing to feel like I’m constantly dieting.

Thanks very much for your wisdom everyone!
