After years and years of weight fluctuation due to eating disorders, I decided last summer that I would finally take matters into my own hands after I had gained so much weight that none of my clothes fit me anymore. I was 205lbs at my heaviest and ended up losing 50lbs, so now I'm in a healthy weight range for my height! I started exercising consistently for the first time last year and did simple diet changes like no longer binge eating when I'm not hungry.
Once I lost weight, I kind of stopped with my daily exercise routine this year due to being a college student with little time, but I recently noticed that I was starting to see ab lines at certain angles! I had never seen my abs in my life; I've been overweight most of my life and when I had lost weight due to anorexia, I was just frail with no tone. This was a revelation for me.
Now, I want to try to pursue these new abs and get them to show up without flexing so hard, but don't know how. Everything I've done for my body both aesthetically and health-wise has been trial and error to see what works for me. I've never been to the gym (no money, feel insecure about working out in public) and I do all my exercise at home with no equipment.
What exercises should I be doing to tone my abs? I've been doing crunches since last year when I started my journey, but when I look up how effective they are, I keep getting mixed results. My typical routine consists of at least 50 jumping jacks + at most 100 squats, crunches, and bridges per session. I've started adding the occasional intense pilates and aerobics videos to go along with that and they always make me sweat and feel the burn the most, but not in the ab area. Is what I'm doing already effective and I just need time to see more results?
