calorie counting is great for some people, but for others, the counting and trying to keep track of things can be really hard, especially if you like to eat food that is harder to track. a while ago, I discovered a method that I consider pretty fool proof since it doesn't take tracking of any kind, you just have to learn to listen to your body cues.
When I first started practicing mindful eating, I realized that you can find your metabolic rate by simply paying attention to how you feel after eating. If you eat when you are hungry and eat enough to feel satiated you are within your energy needs. When you eat when you aren't hungry or eat past fullness and you find yourself feeling that certain over indulged feeling-you are in surplus. When you don't eat to your fill, or you don't eat every time you feel hunger, you are in a deficit. its pretty straightfoward lol.
I found that weight gain has a feeling, if you've gained weight you know what I'm talking about- its like this really heavy, over saturated feeling in you body. And likewise, weight loss has a certain feeling in the body. I would describe it as kind of empty, light. And the extent depends on how much the deficit is. If you are in a slow healthy weight loss, it shouldn't feel so bad.
I found that when you get into the hang of this if also becomes easier to maintain a healthy weight because the body default is to want to maintain homeostasis and balance things to keep you at your weight. So one day you eat more, the next day you eat less. It can work against you and make it harder fo lose weight, but you just have to try to figure it out, and make it work for you.
It's hard for me to describe exactly what I mean lol, but if you try it and get the hang of it, you will understand why I say its the most fool proof method. Because you learn all about your body and what works for you, and its all personalized to you.
