Hey everyone, I'm looking to get back into fitness after a 1.5 year hiatus but I want to avoid some mistakes that I did the last time. So when I first started fitness, my upper body had approximately 23% body fat, and my lower body had %12.5 body fat. I don't know if it was genetics or my history playing soccer but I wasn't happy the way I looked and I felt unhealthy. After these body measurements I was put through a fitness test by the trainer and we found out that basically I had no strength in my upper body, and I had great strength in my lower body. In order to solve this issue, I was advised to a caloric surplus diet and an upper body oriented workout regimen. After following this routine for a year, even though I gained considerable amount of muscle mass, my overall body fat percentage rose to 29% and I felt significantly less athletic due to the amount of mass I put on and even felt out of breath when I did cardiovascular exercises. This time, I just want an upper body composition that would match my lower body, and I started doing bodyweight exercises like pull ups instead of lifting weights in order not to gain any unnecessary muscle mass as I don't like being "stiff". Is my approach illogical? I am open to any advice as I am quite ignorant when it comes to fitness. (For reference, I weigh 200 pounds and I'm 6'2)
