30M here, at about 5'7' 271pounds I've been trying to improve my physical abilities and, hopefully, cut down some weight.
The problem I've been facing with this is that I seem unable to lose weight no matter what I do. I always thought that my weight was a consequence of inactivity in my lifestyle (sedentary profession means I sit in the office most of my day) since I don't eat snacks, I only drink still water, coffee or tea, no sugar in them, and always ate 2 plates in a day with pretty normal servings so I went back to working out (used to play basketball when I was younger, though even back then I was overweight regardless), both cardio and weight, and cut down on food too for good measure (I consume less than 2000 cals in a day, according to calculation I should be losing weight).
I've been doing this for a month now, and while I had gained muscle tone (my clothes definitely fit better and I cut down one size of clothes, can now wear stuff I've been unable to for years) I seem unable to lose weight.
I know that an initial muscle gain can impact weight loss, of course, but after one month I think I should be able to see at least some form of loss, instead it actually looks like I gained a bit despite the lifestyle change I made.
Since my sibling used to have a similar problem with multiple metabolic disorders due to genetics that they couldn't deal with through diet nor medication (got a diet prescribed, almost went malnourished, then got medication and got diabetes because of it, basically nothing worked for years) and had to turn to a gastrectomy to fix it all (since if done early it can cure diabetes, they decided to go through it pretty much immediately, they also found a cancer in the stomach during the operation), and since I've never been fit in my entire life despite my lifestyle being active and my food intake being limited, I am wondering if I should see a doctor about this and get checked or I am simply doing something wrong that I should change
