Calories difference in portion size

Hi all - longer post but I think worth the read for people getting their head around portion size..

Im still relatively new to calorie counting so I am still finding my way like a lot of people here..

I’ve seen a few posts about how people say “I can’t be eating more than ‘X’ calories” so similar to that affect and wanted to give some insight to how much portion size makes a difference.

I’m the cook in my house so I do all the meal prep and therefore I control my portions..

Tonight I’m making chicken schnitzels…

I wanted to share the difference between mine and my 18yo sons portion size

I am having a chicken breast that I have butterflied, pounded, egg washed (watered down) and crumbed in a panko crumb that I have seasoned with several spices.

I actually went to the effort of weighing each spice and have calculated that for every 1g of panko (sorry Americans.. metric system here in Australia) it is 4.2 calories including the spices.

My chicken portion is 135grams (253 calories) and my sons is 195g (364 calories)… not that different so far

When I crumb it though the difference is a lot more..

When the crumb was applied it was an additional 126 calories (30g of crumb) for my serving where my sons was an additional 495 calories (118g of crumb) as his has a lot more surface area than my peice of chicken.. I’ve posted a photo in my profile to show the difference..

So my portion of chicken is now approx 373 calories where his is now 859 calories..

This is before the allowance for the oil allowance in calories also…
