I'm no stranger to CICO: I used a free tracking app from around 2018-2020, MFP I think (minimal results despite extreme adherence), and I tried committing to Keto last spring and summer (extreme adherence, also minimal results, the endless months long plateau in phase 1). A few months ago I asked my physiotherapist to consult her specialist colleague about whether or not I have the painful/abnormal fat disorder lipedema / lipalgia. Their professional opinion was that I have the clinical impression of this disorder in my hips, thighs, and upper arms. General consensus was that I should avoid putting on any more weight to prevent more abnormal painful fat deposits from forming. The catch 22 is that I've basically always been fat and shaped like this my entire adult life, but it has become more pronounced over the past 10 years or so.
I generally seem to move between 145-160 lbs over a given year. Right now I'm at 160 lbs, which is a bummer, but I've been here before 🤷🏼. I'm 5'1", 31, female, and I don't have a car so my method of transport daily is walking and public transit. I carry the majority of my weight in my thighs and hips. I don't think I have a severely disordered relationship with food, but I am not well off so cost is always a concern and does affect my choices somewhat. I love vegetables and fat, but struggle with lean protein due to costs.
I was thinking of trying a premium tool, like LoseIt, to get back on the CICO bandwagon and try to really control my intake because of the lipedema (it does scare me), but historically I haven't had excellent results losing despite really putting my all into this stuff. I'm trying to manage my expectations and I'm kind of at the point where I wonder if I will ever get to 130lbs. Anyone with similar concerns/conditions have any motivational advice for me?
Thanks in advance 🙏
