For a long time I have been using Kiesan calorie calculator for calculating calorie burn for walking - link here: https://keisan.casio.com/exec/system/1350891527
I have generally found this to be quite accurate, like using the numbers this generates seem to keep me in a deficit as I have been losing and a lot of those times it has been when I have made the defecit only through the exercise. It categories the exercise by METs and will adjust based on intensity. Typicall I take my walk, calculate the pace using a calculator ( distance diveded by time) convert to MPH and use this site.
Anyway I don't know whether it was on here or not, but I read that one of the reasons fitness trackers and some other sites/ general hearsay get the cals burned wrong is because they add the cals burned for a particular excersise per the hour already to the TDEE.
So for example if a person's TDEE is for arguments sake 2400, then per hour it is 100 cals.
A person takes a walk for 2 hours and the tracker says they have burnt 500 cals. So the individual then thinks 500 cals burnt from 2 hours walk. They then think their new cals for the day is 2900. But in actual fact the tracker has added to cals to the TDEE, so they have only actually burnt 300, so on thinking they have 500 cals they can eat without gaining they can easily end up in a surplus of 200.
Has anyone else heard this and do they think there is any truth to it?
