I have bipolar 2 and have been prescribed 50mg Seroquel to help with my hypomanic episodes, but I’m absolutely terrified of gaining weight. I’ve been on a diet (CICO and exercise 6 days a week) and have lost 12 kg, with a couple more to go. I gained that weight while I was depressed and drinking, and it’s meant a lot to me that I’ve been able to get it off.
I’ve been obsessively Googling and searching on Reddit and a lot of what I see about Seroquel and weight really scares me. My question is—has anyone been able to lose weight on Seroquel or at least maintain their weight, by calorie counting and exercising, and not giving into any medication-induced cravings? At this point, I’d be happy just maintaining weight.
I feel like I’m being shallow but a lot of my mental health is tied up in being at a healthy(ish) weight and I feel hopeless that weight gain seems inevitable with any of my medication options. I feel like crying whenever I take my medication.
I read that Lamictal is more weight neutral, but I’ve tried that before and I got the rash. I’m not sure about taking Abilify because one of my symptoms is impulsive shopping.
