First week done!

I need to lose 15 to 25 kg (33 to 55lbs) and am mostly overweight due to emotional eating, and snacking, not due to hunger.

My first week went well. I learned a lot. My average amount of steps in a day is 3000. It's not much, but seeing as I am currently unemployed and struggling with burnout and other mental health issues, I consider it a great start. It's a bit silly, but I downloaded Pokémon Go to motivate me to go outside more and take longer walks with my dog. So far it's working.

The amount of calories I ingested with my emotional snacking is huge. It's not worth it. I've been using MyFitnessPal and weighing my food, and my snacks would be more than an entire meal, while without the snacks the app actually warned me I was eating too little a few times. Also, skimmed milk is surprisingly high in calories.

My food options are limited due to strong aversion for a lot of food, but I eat vegetables, grains, potatoes/pasta, meat/meat substitute/fish, milk products and supplemental vitamins (as recommended by my doctor) daily. I did most of this already, I just need to avoid fast food and microwave meals.

Biggest changes I've made: lay off the snacks and find something to distract me when having cravings. Weigh and document everything. Stay away from fast-food and microwave meals. Drink more water and less milk (I used to drink over 1l of skimmed milk per day). Don't starve myself and binge but keep both a maximum and a minimum of calories in mind.

I've noticed I can eat a snack per day if my meals are healthy (if I don't the app protests!) so I've bought some dark chocolate flavored soy pudding. It's 118 calories per portion and keeps my chocolate cravings under control. It also helps me feel like I'm not on a diet, if that makes sense? It feels sustainable. I've also had a bad day where I really wasn't up for cooking, so I went to the store to get microwave meals, and found an option that was low in calories and tasty! I bought that one for myself, and bought the rest of the family their favorites. Keeping an eye on calories while shopping makes a big difference for me. I was genuinely surprised by how many choices were decent.

All in all, I've lost 1.2kg (2.6lbs) in one week! I suspect part of it is waterweight, by cutting out my snacks I cut out a lot of sugar, salt and fat. My face looks less puffy already. I'm not hungry in between meals, and I can reroute my cravings or satiate them with the pudding cup instead of wolfing down a whole bag of chocotoffs.

Overall I feel like I can do this. I think I can keep this up! I hope by next summer I can reach my goal and keep up with my kids running around :)
