I’m a big believer in enjoyability being crucial for sustainability and I’ve been able to find that with the cardio portion of getting into a beginner fitness routine.
Basically I tried a bunch of different things (kickboxing, walking, dancing, swimming, spinning, running, tae bo, hiit) and found what worked for me. For example I hated spinning and hiit but enjoyed walking, dancing and running so now I’m doing a daily walk, working my way through the couch to 5k program and doing fun dance workouts on non run days.
Where I’m struggling is strength training, I know it’s important for a number of reasons but I just find it so boring. I’ve tried some body weight workouts and some beginner routines with dumbbells or bands and I didn’t really like either. Are there other (non gym based) forms of resistance training? I’ve tried googling but it just seems like there isn’t the variety in strength training options that there is in cardio.
