I am trying to research cheat days but there is not much out there. I think they ruined some of my diets after a big one, but at the same time, they help me with willpower on daily basis. What's your experience with them?
Some context and backstory why I am making this post:
So this all started when I had an argument with my brother about my cheat days on Monday. I am for it and he is against it.
I tried researching the topic of cheat days during this week and it is really surprising how I managed to find almost nothing in regards to scientific studies. Most articles mention this one study from 2015 but it's a very small study.
It had 36 people split into two groups who went on a 14-day diet. Half of the people had a cheat day and others had no cheat days.
They monitored those people and found that the group that had a cheat day, rated various metrics 10-15 percent higher: self-control, desire to continue dieting, desire to repeat this kind of diet.
So it's really not much. At least not something that you could make huge final conclusions of.
I personally use them because I feel like it helps me maintain my willpower and stick to my diet. But I do recognize that in the past, I think cheat days were responsible for killing my diet when I accidentally ate way too much during one weekend and it killed my motivation. I think it happened more than once. At the same time, without a cheat day, I don't stick to the diet as much.
I would really like to learn from other peoples' experiences and perspectives. Do you use cheat days? have they ruined your diet before? What is your perspective? Please share.
