To begin, I used to be a very athletically built skinnier girl until life threw a huge turn at me and I was diagnosed with a mental illness and was medicated at the age of 15 and gained around 75lbs or more in the span of a year and a half. Over the years, I would lose 10-20lbs and gain them right back. Seemed impossible to lose weight with my medication regiment. Then, fast forward to mid twenties, I switched psychiatrists and medications and gained an additional 30-40lbs. It was a hopeless case, at least the way I felt. I thought I would never lose weight.
Fast forward to when I was turning 30 in May 2020. I weighed myself the day of because I haven't weighed myself at that point in a few years due to feelings of insecurity and I didn't want to accept what I weighed. I thought I would be around 180lbs. I was very wrong. I was 219.9lbs, basically 220lbs. I was shocked. I made the decision to get healthier. I changed psychiatrists and changed medications to one medication and it didn't impact my weight in a negative way.
From May 2020 I decided to first cut out desserts and sugar. By August I started eating healthier options for meals and by the end of the year I began really getting into appropriate portion control and eating smaller/healthier meals. I began to walk for 30 minutes to an hour three to four times a week. By January 2021 I went down to 198lbs, so I was officially under 200! Then the real work began for me. I kept up with my diet and began doing intense cardio at the gym. Swimming laps, going on the elliptical, and going back to open gym volleyball.
Fast forward to today, I am around 162-163lbs. For BMI (I know it's not the best measurement of health but I'm just using it as a guideline) I am aiming to get down to 145lbs and if I need more I will lose another 5-10lbs but my main goal is 145lbs. I got a personal trainer to help with strength training (just started on Friday) and I have been going to the gym three times a week for cardio. I am beyond proud of myself not only going under 200lbs but needing less than 20lbs to reach my weight goal (that may or may not be adjusted when met). I'm happy I was able to do this without medication, a surgery, or fixating and dieting in an unhealthy way. If someone does take medication or has a surgery I am not against that at all by the way, whatever works for different people!
This has been a life changer for me. My self confidence is up and I am motivated to reach my goals for my body and health. I can fit into Mediums in some clothes. I was an XL for a very long time. I have ways to go but I am looking forward to getting there by the end of this year. If I reach 145lbs, I would have lost 75lbs total and that's just crazy wild to me! Glad I was able to get to where I am today and I am motivated to continue my journey this year :)
