Cutting out bad eating habits

When I was in my early 20’s I became obsessed with losing weight and went about it in an unhealthy way by starving and punishing myself when I strayed from my strict diet. It all imploded and I went from 130 lbs (at 5”6) to 230 lbs in the span of 2 years due to depression and unhealthy habits. After 3 more years of recovery, last year I decided that while I have found peace with my body, I want to be able to experience things that an obese person may have a hard time doing or enjoying. Like skydiving! I’m trying to be very careful with how I lose weight this time around- and decided that I wouldn’t focus on the number or my body image, but rather listen to how my body is feeling.

So first, I looked at my bad eating habits. I could name 3 off the top of my head: drinking pop, eating chips and eating ice cream whenever I wanted without any impulse control. Nov 2019 I moved to a new city where hiking and outdoor activities are abundantly available, April 2020 I gave up drinking pop, Sept 2020 I stopped eating chips, and Dec 26th 2020 I stopped eating ice cream. My end goal is to be able to eat these things again, but as a special treat, and not a nightly ritual. Currently I am learning new recipes to cook meals in advance so I am not tempted to stop by a fast food place or order take out when I am feeling lazy. I also want to create a daily stretching routine.

I cant say I’ve lost a lot of weight, but I feel a lot better (especially since cutting pop out, wow I became so much less fatigued). I feel confident that I can be healthy and live my best life. Has anyone else used this kind of approach to getting healthy? I’d love to hear your stories or tips. Thanks for reading this far!
