Here's my background - during my last pregnancy an issue was brought to light regarding my thyroid. A few months after delivery I had a full thyroidectomy and put on Synthroid. My endocrinologist has been working on finding the right medication and mg and it just takes time to figure out what the right dosage is.
A few months after my calcium, Vitamin D and magnesium levels were okay my Synthroid was lowered. A few weeks ago during my checkup I mentioned how I was so hungry all the time and so thirsty. I thought I was sliding towards Type II Diabetes, however my glucose levels were really good. Turns out I went from being hypo to hyper and everything I was experiences was typical for someone with hyperthyroid.
I was switched to Armor instead and about a month into it. I'm still so hungry and so thirsty all the time. However on Synthroid I was eating and barely gaining any weight, however if I didn't eat I would start to shake really hard. On Armor I'm still hungry all the time, meaning my stomach is actually rumbling soon after eating and now I'm gaining. It doesn't matter if I eat something high in protein or high in fat, I start to get hungry again and will start shaking. On top of that I have non-diabetic hypoglycemia, so I cannot allow my blood sugar to get too low (hence the shaking) so a low-GI diet is not for me.
On top of all this I'm still breastfeeding. I didn't have this issue of being hungry all the time until after my thyroid was removed and I was very successful at weigh watchers, etc. I want to lose the pregnancy weight and now sure if I should really wait until my medication is stable and I'm done breastfeeding.
